I will get to
the training part later but first let us analyze why basketball? If you can’t
jump high enough then why not just choose any other sport? If you wanted to
build your stamina and lose weight, or even just wanted to tune your body then
I doubt whether there would be any sport better than Basketball for that cause.

pure excitement and exhaustion, the thrill of beating your opponent, the
happiness you feel when you dunk the ball or score a three-pointer, it is
unparalleled. So if you love this game and have chosen it over all other sports
then I can’t really blame you. The benefits of playing this game are numerous
and as far as I can think it does not have any such disadvantages that come to
mind.
Benefits of playing the game
There are
certain benefits to everything we do, and these benefits are the very reason
that we indulge ourselves in these activities. Similarly there are many
benefits of playing basketball, and some of them are enlisted below.
- It’s a great way to build stamina and to ensure that your body stays in shape. Basketball ensures that you get an extreme workout whenever you play.
- There is no cost factor involved in this game. That’s right you can play the game without spending any money whatsoever. All you need is a court; it’s up to you whether you choose to spend money to get a membership for a fancy court or play for free in the local court.
- You learn to play in a team, and if you are short of a team then you can practice alone as well.
- In addition to all these benefits, it is extremely advantageous for you in the health department as well. Particularly in burning the extra fat and reducing the cholesterol.
How to increase the Jump?
Enough talk
about basketball and its benefits, let’s get down to business. So what are the
things that can help you to improve your jumping ability? Someof the things
that will help you in jumping higher are listed below.
- You need to develop your leg muscles and increase the overall strength of your legs. The legs are responsible for providing you with the necessary power to jump, therefore the greater the strength the higher the jump. You can improve the strength by doing squat jumps and deadlifts. In addition to this you should also try doing calf raises as well. All these exercises will help you develop strength in your legs.
- Get rid of the muscle knots that are present in your legs. These knots are also known as trigger points and as long as these points are tensed and stretched, you will not be able to make a high jump. You can get rid of them by using a foam roller or by taking a relaxing hot bath. A massage will also help the cause.
- Another effective method is to do something called “toe raises”. What you do is stand on an edge you raise your toes slowly and then let them go back down and repeat the process.
- Practice your approach towards the Bucket. A good running approach is equally important to landing a good jump than any other training exercise. You must take at least 2 steps if you wish to pull off a good looking jump. Practice your approach on an empty court before playing.
